May all individuals gain freedom from suffering.
May all individuals find sustained health, happiness and wholeness.
May I assist all individuals in gaining freedom from suffering.
May I assist all individuals in finding health, happiness and wholeness.
It is easy to find 10 minutes to practice this meditation at any time during the day - while sitting in traffic, waiting for an appointment, or even in a long line at the grocery store. I practiced this in the car while traveling back from visiting my family for Thanksgiving.

In my assessment, I feel that I am somewhere between the body and the mind levels of all 3 of these areas of development. I am exercising, I consciously consider nutritional choices that I make (I am learning more and more about nutrition since that is an area of focus in my studies), but the area I feel I need to give the most attention to is the self-regulation line of development. I feel that I am beyond just surviving, and I am learning, through this course and other developments, that I can grow in this area to more of a subtle-mind and eventually a spiritual level.
In considering this assessment, it became very clear to me that even though I found that I was focusing mainly on the biological aspect of my life, the psycho-spiritual, the interpersonal and the worldly aspects all would be affected as I grow in the biological area, once again confirming that all of these aspects are interconnected and all have body, mind and spirit levels of development.
In order to foster greater development of self-regulation, I feel that engaging more in the meditation practices we have been learning about in this course- specifically the loving-kindness and the subtle-mind practices- will be beneficial. I am currently engaged in an exercise program, but quite honestly, I do let it slip now and then. I am fully aware of how my nutritional choices will affect my overall health, but don't always make the best choices. By developing self-regulation, I feel that my exercise program and my nutritional choices will become more of something that is just an extension of who I am and not something that I have to force myself to do.

Hey Cheri I found myself leaning more about me when it comes to how I feel. The issues that I am going through today I been able to use the exercises to help me solve problems. It doesn’t take long to meditate and like anything else the practice of the different techniques is what helps me the most. Because of the early age I started to meditate I have been able to get the benefits that come from meditation. To get our mental work out is no different than getting the physical work out both equally important to me. We know that we get what we give, so when we give loving-kindness you attract loving-kindness (Dacher, 2006). If we practice regularly, we will definitely be able to still the mind and develop a witnessing consciousness that subsequently progresses towards the sable and facile mind of calm-abiding (Dacher, 2006). Gaining freedoms knowing suffering finding health, happiness and wholeness is focusing in loving-kindness (Dacher, 2006).
ReplyDeleteWith my business I believe in giving to those who can afford yet are willing to learn. I have a few karate students that can’t afford to pay for the lessons. By showing them loving-kindness I have gotten rewards that are priceless as well as my seniors exercise classes. I only charge $2.00 per class or $6.00 per week making it affordable for seniors that live on a fix income, but yet their health benefits are slowly being taken away. By doing the classes and getting the exposure I’ve gotten other business from the time I take to teach and keep the seniors healthier.
The exercises are helping me look at life differently as I look at each aspect and make the connection between them. Going for a walk today with my wife I was making the connection between nature and us. I saw a show about the forest and the connection the placement of the trees has with their social culture just like us. There are so many things that we still need to know about the connection we have with our surroundings.

Cheri-
ReplyDeleteI think that the ways that you found to incorporate your meditation were excellent and I definitely took notes. Traffic and in line at the grocery store are two excellent places for me because so much time is spent waiting. I have now found a full proof method to fill in the gap and I thank you for that suggestion.

Hi
ReplyDeleteI do this a lot when I am somewhere in the public. When someone is playing with my emotions at the time, I just close my eyes and pray for them knowing they do not know any better. I use my mind a lot to solve problems and think before I act. I was taught as young child from my grandmother, bless her heart.
